Sunderland have the chance to secure Premier League survival for another season with a win over Everton tonight.
Win tonight, and they send Norwich and Newcastle crashing out of the Premier League, joining Aston Villa next season in the Championship. There will be many Norwich and Newcastle fans watching the game with baited breath, and rooting on Everton.
A win for Sunderland is not unlikely either, they will be playing at home, and the fans will be unilaterally behind them, and there indefatigable manager Sam Allardyce, whom looks likely to once again to turn around the fortunes of a struggling Premier League side.
Jermain Defoe will likely be key for Sunderland. He has scored 15 invaluable goals for Sunderland this season, which has prompted his manager to call on his selection for England for EURO 2016.
Sunderland are unbeaten in their last 4 premier league games, with 2 wins and 2 draws that have landed them outside the relegation zone, unfamiliar territory for a side that has spent the majority of the season looking into oblivion.
The 2 wins were impressive as well, with a 3-0 victory over fellow Premier League strugglers Norwich, and an impressive 3-2 against a resurgent Chelsea side who are playing far better under the management of Guus Hiddink than at the start of their campaign with Jose Mourinho.
Standing in the way of Sunderland tonight is an out of sorts Everton side, packed with talent, but have had a season to forget based on what they have been able to achieve this season. Their recent form is poor also, with only 1 premier league win in their last 8 games.
I expect this Everton side to perform rather sluggishly. They don’t have anything to play for at this point either. They can’t secure much more by winning their last games in the league, and they lost a close game to Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final.
Best bets for tonight are in the wincast category. I expect Jermain Defoe to score and Sunderland to win tonight, so that would be a good bet.
However, Romelu Lukaku has had a great season for Everton once again, and is one of the few shining lights for this team thus far. With this in mind, a Romelu Lukaku to score and Everton to lose is also a bet worth thinking about.
