Real Madrid v Wolfsburg: Champions League betting preview

Real Madrid take on Wolfsburg in the Champions League quarter-final second leg this evening, and what a game it could be.

Having lost the first leg 2-0, Real Madrid are on the verge of a shock Champions League exit against a side who are currently 8th in the German Bundesliga.

It all went wrong for Zinedine Zidane’s side a week ago, as they conceded two first-half goals in quick succession and failed to really test Diego Benaglio in the Wolfsburg goal.

It’s a big game for Gareth Bale tonight, who was left on the bench at the weekend as Real Madrid beat Eibar, leaving the Welshman fresh for the tie and eager to impress. He’s 5/6 to score any time tonight, and is due a goal having only scored once in his last five games for the Los Blancos.

If you do fancy a Real Madrid comeback, Cristiano Ronaldo is really the guy to back. So often the catalyst for Madrid, he’s 15/8 to score two or more goals tonight.

It’s worth noting that Real Madrid haven’t overturned a two-goal first-leg deficit in European since 1987, when they beat Red Star Belgrade in the quarter-finals of the European Cup.

If you’re backing Wolfsburg to grab a goal tonight, there’s a few names that stand out, including former Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle, but Julian Draxler is the man to watch. He’s been superb in the Champions League this season, having scored twice against previous opponents Gent and putting in a man of the match performance in the first leg game. He’s 15/1 to score the last goal tonight.

Real Madrid may be losing the tie, but they’re still favourites to go through. If you’re backing the underdogs Wolfsburg (no pun intended!) they’re 4/5.
