Man City will play Real Madrid at the Bernabeu tonight in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final.
Last week’s game petered out into a bore draw as neither team failed to take a foothold in the game. The most notable talking point of the first-leg was the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo from the Real Madrid starting eleven when he was sidelined with an injury.
Cristiano Ronaldo is fit to face Manchester City tonight, and with Real Madrid playing at home it is set to be a different contest with the competitions all time leading scorer leading the line for Real Madrid. Man City will also be buoyed by the return to training of Yaya Toure who looks set to possibly start also.
The English side faces a difficult task in progressing to the Champions League final. Real Madrid have lost only twice all season, and have kept a clean sheet at the Bernabeu in their last five games.
Manchester City’s prospects were not made any easier as they were on the receiving end of a 4-2 drubbing by Southampton on Sunday. The brace scored by Man City’s young prospect Kelechi Iheanacho was the only positive to be taken from the game for Man City, and they may well look to start the in-form youngster once again.
In order to win tonight, expect to see Man City attempt to copy the Bayern Munich side which relentlessly attacked Real Madrid, and exposed the lack of defensive cover provided by Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo on the left and right hand sides.
If this tactic is not adopted, their ability to win the game will be extremely limited, though this looks set to be the plan with Sergio Aguero being rested against Southampton in Man City’s last Premier League game.
Real Madrid are the favourites to win tonight’s game. They managed to keep a clean sheet in the away leg, and though they weren’t able to score an away goal, with their squad at close to 100% once more and a game at their home ground, I expect to see them mount a strong challenge against Man City.
My prediction for the result is a 2-2 Draw. Even though Real Madrid are in great form at home, I do expect both teams to score as I see the game being more open than the first-leg was, and Man City will be chasing some valuable away goals and progress through to the final on a draw.
Betfect will also be featuring football specials on Kevin De Bruyne and Vincent Kompany. Both players have the ability to make an impact with Kompany being a threat at set pieces and Kevin de Bruyne’s attacking ability makes him a potent threat to the Real Madrid defence.
