Tyson Fury has been officially stripped of his IBF heavyweight title after being unable to face their mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov next.
Fury who won the IBF belt by beating Wladimir Klitschko last month, along with the WBO, WBA and IBO titles, will now rematch with the Ukrainian and come to blows once again after Klitschko activated a rematch clause in their contract.
The IBF announced that Fury should face challenger Glazkov less than 48 hours after Fury’s victory, much to the disappointment of his management team.
Peter Fury, the champion’s uncle and trainer, has been quoted as saying: “If they want to take the belt from us in such pathetic and disgusting circumstances, that will result in a public and embarrassing display for the IBF. That’s for sure.
“It’s shocking news. I don’t think the IBF know what’s happening.
“When we did the Klitschko deal, they wanted a rematch clause, which is common practice when you’re dealing in major world title fights. He’s exercising that clause so there’s nothing we can do to satisfy the IBF. Tyson has to fight Klitschko.”
The IBF have now ordered the Russian to face Charles Martin who boasts a record of (22-0-1 KO20) to fight for the vacant title after cancelling the purse bid for Fury-Glazkov on Tuesday.
Martin who fights under Al Haymons PBC boxing, had been due to fight Dominic Breazeale on Saturday in San Antonio but it has now been reported that the fight has been cancelled with Fury’s IBF strap having been vacated.
Tyson Fury speaking on matters himself has been quoted as saying: “The IBF as far as I’m concerned are a duff organisation. I’m the lineal heavyweight in the division and now they haven’t got their belt associated with me and they never will have it associated with me again.
“They didn’t give me any time – it was two days’ notice. How could I have not fought Klitschko again? I’m clause-contracted to a rematch so I can’t not fight him again.
“But I’m not interested in the IBF. I’ve not been following it. If they take the belt off me then obviously I want my sanctioning fees back because there’s no point in paying for a belt I’m not having.
“Everyone knows I’m the No 1 heavyweight on the planet. They can take their belts – they can take them all if they want – WBO, WBA, IBO and Ring magazine. But it won’t take away what I am. I’m still the No 1 heavyweight boxer in the world.
“They can give them to Fred Flintstone, Joe Bloggs, Superman, Batman – but everyone knows I’m No 1.
